FIFA 2022: Visiting Qatar? Try These 6 Street Foods

By Aanchal Mathur

With the FIFA fever currently on in Qatar, let's look at what the Saudi country has to offer for foodies. From Karak tea to shawarma and ragag, here's all you need to try.

Chapati or Poori with Karak

Similar to Indian paratha, poori or chapati are flatbreads with a crispy crust. These are perfectly paired with karak tea – a mixture of black tea, milk, sugar and cardamom.

Ragag (crepes)

Folded or rolled into a cone shape, ragag is a paper-thin crepe with a crispy, wafer-like texture, best eaten hot with tea or kebabs.

Luqaimat

Lokma or luqaimat are sweet flour dumplings resembling donut. Soaked in sugar syrup and flavoured with cardamom and saffron, these dumplings have a warm gooey centre.

Samboosa or Samosa

Our good old crispy puff triangles are present in cuisines from Africa to China. Its Arabic counterpart has a thin crust stuffed with mincemeat, spinach, or cheese.

Falafel

A popular vegan snack, falafel comes in little crunchy deep-fried balls or round flat cutlets, made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both.

Shawarma

One of the most common street foods from the Middle Easte, shawarma is made from boneless strips of meat which are stacked and grilled on a rotating skewer, sliced and wrapped in bread.
