Characterised by its deep orange colour courtesy the use of saffron strands, kesar chai is a delicious variation of the classic Indian chai. Perfect to pair with breakfast or evening snacks, this simple recipe can also be elevated with the use of some cardamom or ginger.
2 cups water ¼ cup milk 1.5 teaspoons tea leaves 2 teaspoons sugar 6-8 saffron strands
Add the water, tea leaves and sugar to a saucepan to bring to a simmer until the colour is a deep brown.
Pour in the milk along with the saffron strands and continue to boil for a couple of minutes.
Strain the chai once ready into serving cups and garnish with a strand or two of saffron before serving hot.
