Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the Ramadan month and is celebrated with much joy and fervour across the Muslim world. Muslims around the world gather together and read out their prayers before they indulge in the festive spread consisting of delicious savoury and sweet treats. Here are six traditional Eid sweets that holds a special place in the hearts of many:
This is a quintessential Eid delicacy that translates to ‘milk with dates’ in Persian. This rich and creamy dessert is made with vermicelli simmered in sweetened milk, infused with cardamom, saffron and garnished with dates, almonds and pistachios.
It is a regal Mughlai desset. It comprises slices of fried bread soaked in flavoured sugar syrup, layered with thickened sweetened milk an adorned with nuts and edible silver leaf. It is a traditional dessert popular during Eid.
This is a creamy rice pudding flavoured with saffron, cardamom and rose water. Here, ground rice is simmered in milk until thickened and then chilled in earthenware pots to enhance its taste. Phirni is enjoyed cold.
It is a Turkish dessert, a rich pastry made with layers of filo dough, filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with honey or syrup. Its crisp texture and sweet, nutty flavour made it a deectable addition to Eid gatherings.
Also known as Revani or Hareeseh, it is a Middle Eastern semolina cake soaked in sugar syrup. Flavoured with rose water or orange blossom water, it is topped with almonds or coconut.
This combines two desserts, kulfi and faluda. It creates a refreshing and indulgent treat for Eid. Kulfi is served with faluda, where the vermicelli is soaked in rose syrup, milk and chia seeds.
