Mutton dalcha is a traditional breakfast dish of tender mutton chunks and lentils, cooked in spices. It is typically served during Eid celebrations.
100g mutton with bones ¼ cup chana dal ¼ cup toor dal ½ tsp turmeric powder 3 cups water 6 garlic cloves 1-inch ginger 2 medium-sized onions 2 chopped green chillies 2 sprigs curry leaves 1 chopped tomato 2 tsp red chilli powder 1 tsp garam masala
2 tbsp tamarind paste 5 small brinjals, chopped ½ raw mango chopped ½ raw plantain, chopped ¼ cup coconut paste Oil, as needed Salt
Take a pressure cooker and add the mutton chunks. Combine the toor dal and chana dal.
Pour in the water and cook for 5 whistles. Turn off the flame. Heat the oil in a pan.
Add the onions, curry leaves, and green chillies. Fry for 3-4 minutes, until the onions are tender.
Mix in the tomatoes and onion-ginger-garlic paste. Fry for a few minutes. Mix in the red chilli powder, garam masala powder, tamarind paste and salt.
Fry for a minute. Add brinjal, mango, and raw plantain. Add a little water and cook for 15 minutes, covered.
Mix in the cooked dal and mutton combination. Pour in the ground coconut paste and let it boil for a few minutes.
