Nothing expresses love more than a homemade chocolate cake. This Valentine’s Day, bake an easy chocolate cake that will surely leave your loved one in awe.

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour ¾ cup powdered sugar ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1 tsp baking powder ½ tsp baking soda ½ cup milk ¼ cup vegetable oil or melted butter 1 tsp vanilla extract ½ cup warm water 1 tbsp sugar (for extra softness) 50 g dark chocolate (for glaze) 2 tbsp fresh cream (for glaze) 4–5 strawberries (for Valentine’s garnish)

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 180°C and grease a small cake tin. Line it up with butter paper to make sure the cake comes out easily and holds its shape.

Step 2

In a mixing bowl, add flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda. Sift everything to remove any lumps and achieve a light, smooth, bakery-style consistency.

Step 3

To this bowl, add powdered sugar, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Whisk everything together until smooth and lump-free.

Step 4

Add in warm water slowly and mix until the batter becomes smooth and a bit thin.

Step 5

Transfer the prepared batter into the tin and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes. Check it with a toothpick; if it comes out clean, the cake is baked.

Step 6

Melt some dark chocolate with fresh cream to make a smooth glaze. Spread it over the cake and garnish with strawberries for a romantic Valentine’s celebration.
