Dosakaya Curry: A Light And Nutritious South Indian Dish For Rainy Days

Dosakaya curry is a flavourful and comforting South Indian dish made with yellow cucumber, a popular ingredient of Andhra Cuisine. It is light, nutritious and easy to prepare, making it a go-to recipe for every meal.

Ingredients

2 cups peeled, deseeded, and chopped dosakaya 1 finely chopped onion 1 chopped tomato 1–2 slit green chillies 1 tbsp oil ½ tsp mustard seeds ½ tsp cumin seeds ½ tsp urad dal ½ tsp chana dal 1 sprig curry leaves ¼ tsp turmeric powder ½ tsp red chilli powder Salt to taste Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Step 1

Peel, deseed, chop dosakaya, if bitter, sprinkle salt, rest for 10 minutes, then rinse.

Step 2

Heat oil, splutter mustard seeds, add cumin, urad dal, chana dal, and a sprig of curry leaves.

Step 3

Add chopped onion, green chillies, sauté until soft, then add chopped tomatoes, turmeric, and salt, cooking until mushy.

Step 4

Stir in dosakaya, cover, and cook on medium heat for 10–12 minutes until tender.

Step 5

Sprinkle red chilli powder, mix, and cook for 2 minutes.

Step 6

Garnish with coriander and serve.
