Gulab Jamun is a classic Indian dessert featuring soft milk-based balls soaked in rose-scented sugar syrup. It’s rich, melt-in-mouth, and a festive favourite that perfectly balances sweetness with aromatic indulgence.
1 cup milk powder ¼ cup maida (all-purpose flour) 1 pinch baking soda 2 tbsp ghee 3-4 tbsp milk (or as needed) Oil or ghee for frying For Sugar Syrup: 1½ cups sugar 1½ cups water 4 crushed green cardamoms Few saffron strands (optional) 1 tsp rose water
Boil water and sugar till slightly sticky, then add cardamom, saffron, and rose water. Keep warm.
In a bowl, combine milk powder, maida, and baking soda, then gradually add ghee and milk to form a smooth, soft dough.
Shape into smooth, crack-free small balls.
Heat oil/ghee on a low flame and fry until golden brown.
Drop immediately into warm syrup and let soak for at least 1 hour before serving.
