Crisp, savoury bites made from whole wheat flour, cumin, and carom seeds, a healthier twist on the classic Indian snack. Perfect for tea time or light snacking.
2 cups Whole Wheat Flour 2 tsp Salt 2 tbsp Hot Oil 1 tsp Cumin Seeds (coarsely ground) 1 tsp Carom Seeds (coarsely ground) ¼ tsp Ground Turmeric 1 tsp Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder (optional) ⅔ cup Water Oil
In a bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, salt, and hot oil. Rub the mixture well with your fingers until the oil is evenly incorporated and the flour holds shape when pressed.
Mix in the coarsely ground cumin seeds, carom seeds, turmeric, and red chilli powder.
Gradually add water, kneading to make a smooth and firm dough. Add 1 tsp oil if required to help bind it together. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions.
Roll one portion into a thin, 8-inch circle using dry flour for dusting if necessary. Cut into 1-inch squares using a knife or pizza cutter. Repeat with the remaining dough.
Preheat the air fryer to 175°C. Lightly spray the basket with oil. Arrange the pieces in a single layer in the basket.
Air fry for 5 to 6 minutes shaking halfway through, until golden and crisp.
Allow the namak para to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container. They will stay fresh for up to two weeks.
