Curry leaves are among the staples in an Indian household. Without them, many dishes seem incomplete. Poha, sevai, sambar, rasam, and coconut chutney miss the earthy notes that these leaves add. Here is how to store them in the refrigerator.
Pick the curry leaves and wash them thoroughly. Remove any kind of dirt and debris from the surface.
Spread the leaves on a towel and let them dry. You can also pat them with paper towels to absorb excess moisture.
While storing the leaves, you can cover them with an airy cloth piece. Cotton cloth or paper towels also work.
If you are storing the leaves in the refrigerator, keep them in an airtight container. It will prevent the build-up of moisture.
Whether you wrap or use an airtight jar to store the leaves, keep them in the crisper drawer. It will keep them fresh.
For long-term storage, you can also freeze the leaves and use them when needed after defrosting.
You can also dry the leaves in the sun until they are crispy. Add them to an airtight container and keep them in the crisper drawer.
