‘Benne’ in Kannada means ‘butter.’ So, benne masala dosa translates to ‘butter masala dosa.’ It originates from Davangere in Karnataka. Follow this recipe for a quick benne masala dosa!
1 cup of boiled rice ½ cup of urad dal 2 teaspoons of fenugreek seeds 2 teaspoons of flattened rice 1.2 cup of rice flour Salt to taste 1 block of butter 4 potatoes, mashed 1 medium-sized onion, chopped 2 chopped green chillies 2 tablespoons of oil
In two different bowls, soak the rice and urad dal for 3-5 hours. Grind them into a paste. Let it ferment overnight.
Heat oil in a pan. Add the chillies and onions. Cook for 5-7 minutes. Add mashed potatoes. Mix it well. Set it aside.
Next, place a non-stick griddle or tawa. Use a ladle to pour the dosa batter. Spread it gently.
Add some oil to the edges of the batter. Let it cook until it turns golden brown. Flip the dosa. Fold the dosa into a moon shape.
Take it off the heat. Serve the benne masala dosa with coconut chutney.
