Picante is a modern cocktail style inspired by Mexican flavours, built around heat, acidity, and herbal profile. It evolved as bartenders began balancing spice with brightness rather than alcohol strength. The flavour profile is unique yet clean with a spice aesthetic. There are multiple garnishes that go with the drink for one to try when making it at home!
Put lime juice on the rim of the glass, and then dip it in a mixture of salt as well as red chilli powder. This adds heat and sharpness right away, highlighting the Mexico theme.
Add sprigs of mint, basil, or coriander to make each sip smell better. Adding herbs makes the drink less spicy and more balanced.
After lightly charring the lemon or orange slices, place them on the rim. The smoky note makes the taste more robust and adds to the look.
Put pickled jalapeños or chillies on a skewer and cross them over the glass. They add a tangy, spicy, and robust flavour to the dish.
Freshness comes from thin strips of cucumber and ground black pepper. This garnish keeps the drink cool as well as makes the flavours stand out more.
