This Parisian-style hot chocolate elevates the standard cocoa drink into an incredibly rich, velvety elixir that provides the ultimate comfort during gray, stormy afternoons. By melting high-quality dark chocolate directly into gently simmered milk and cream, you achieve a beautifully thick, glossy body that hugs the spoon. Enhanced with a warming whisper of ground cinnamon and a tiny scrape of fresh nutmeg, this luxurious beverage delivers a sophisticated, bittersweet profile that turns any rainy evening into a special occasion.
1.5 cups full-fat whole milk 1/2 cup heavy cream 100g premium dark chocolate (60-70% cocoa), finely chopped 1 tbsp soft brown sugar (optional) 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon A tiny pinch of freshly grated nutmeg and a pinch of sea salt
Combine the full-fat whole milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, grated nutmeg, and a tiny pinch of sea salt in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Heat the liquid steadily for about 3 minutes until it begins to steam and display tiny bubbles around the edges of the pan, ensuring it does not reach a rolling boil.
Turn the stove flame down to low and slide the finely chopped dark chocolate pieces directly into the warm milk mixture, stirring continuously with a wire whisk.
Whisk the mixture vigorously for 2 minutes until the chocolate melts completely into a glossy, velvety fluid, then pour into warm ceramic mugs and enjoy immediately.
