Aside from featuring as a key element in the Japanese seafood delicacy of sushi, the shortgrain rice is also versatile in the sense that it makes for a great addition to poke bowls, salads as well as to pair with meaty curries. Follow this simple guide to trying a hand at making sushi rice for your next meal.
Rinse the rice using fresh water 3-4 times or until it runs clear to remove any excessive starch.
Place the grains in a bowl and cover with some more water to help evenly cook them.
Add equal parts hot water to the rice in a saucepan before bringing it up to temperature before turning the heat to low.
On a low heat, continue cooking the sushi rice for 15 minutes after covering it with a lid.
Make a solution of vinegar, salt and sugar and toss it with a rice in a glass or wooden bowl.
Enjoy the sushi rice as an accompaniment to seafood preparations, stir fries, curries and more.
