Rasam rice is an easy recipe. It might not be fancy, but it is comforting and satisfies hunger. When you feel like doing nothing on weekends or laziness takes over you, this dish can be prepared in just one pot with minimal supervision.
1 cup sona rice Oil, salt, and water as needed 1 tomato 2 garlic cloves ¼ cup toor dal 1 cup tamarind extract 1 tsp jaggery, mustard seeds 2 tbsp coriander ½ tsp turmeric powder 3 tbsp rasam powder 2 dried red chillies 7-8 curry leaves A pinch of hing
Heat oil in a cooker and add mustard seeds, hing, turmeric powder, chopped garlic, and curry leaves to it.
Add chopped tomatoes, rasam powder, and sprinkle salt. Wait for tomatoes to turn mushy and pour tamarind extract.
Add dal, rice, more salt, and water as needed. Close the lid of the pressure cooker.
Cook for two whistles and wait for the pressure before opening the lid.
Rasam rice will be ready, and you can garnish it with coriander leaves.
Serve rasam rice in a bowl and enjoy it hot while binge-watching your latest favourite.
