The Brandy Alexander is a classic dessert cocktail that became popular in the early 20th century, evolving from an earlier gin-based Alexander. By the 1920s, brandy replaced gin, giving the drink a richer, rounder profile that suited after-dinner drinking. Made with brandy, crème de cacao and cream, it became closely associated with celebratory occasions and winter entertaining. Its smooth texture and gentle sweetness have kept it relevant through decades of cocktail menus.
