Chicken Shorba is the perfect winter comfort bowl—light, soothing, and naturally immunity-boosting. Slow-cooked with spices, herbs, and tender chicken, this warming broth helps you feel nourished without heaviness, making it ideal for chilly evenings.
300 g chicken (bone-in pieces) 1 large onion (sliced) 1 medium tomato (chopped) 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste 1 tbsp ghee ½ tsp turmeric powder 1 tsp black pepper powder 1 tsp cumin seeds 1 bay leaf 4–5 cloves 1 small cinnamon stick 3 cups water Salt as needed 2 tbsp coriander leaves (chopped)
In a vessel, heat a spoon of ghee. Add cumin, cloves, cinnamon, and bay leaf to it. Stir for a minute until the ingredients start releasing the aroma.
Add onions and sauté until they turn soft. Add in ginger-garlic paste and cook until it turns aromatic.
Add the chicken pieces and stir well to coat every piece with spices. Lightly roast to seal juices, guaranteeing a richer tasting broth.
Add tomatoes, turmeric, pepper, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
Pour in the water and boil for about 25 to 30 minutes until the chicken pieces turn tender and the broth generates warm, comforting flavours.
Strain or keep chunky pieces as per preference. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot.
