When rainy evenings call for something warm and satisfying, skip the regular heavy gravies and make this comforting Chicken Kali Mirch rather. Filled with lean protein and the bold warmth of black pepper or kali mirch, this wholesome dish is perfect to enjoy as a cosy monsoon family meal.

Ingredients

500 g boneless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces 2 tbsp ghee or cold-pressed oil 2 medium onions, finely sliced 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste 2 tsp coarsely crushed black pepper 1 tsp black pepper powder ½ tsp cumin seeds ½ cup plain curd, whisked 1 tsp coriander powder ½ tsp garam masala Salt, to taste 2 tbsp fresh coriander, chopped 2 green chillies, slit (optional)

Step 1

In a pan, heat ghee and add cumin seeds to it. Let the splutter, then add onions and cook until they turn golden. Mix in ginger-garlic paste until the raw smell fades away.

Step 2

To the base, now add chicken pieces and cook on high flame until it turns lightly brown.

Step 3

Now, mix in the crushed black pepper, pepper powder, coriander powder, salt, and whisked curd. Cook it lightly until the chicken soaks the warming spices and does not curdle.

Step 4

Cover this and let it cook on low flame for about 12 to 15 minutes until the chicken turns tender and gets coated in the gravy.

Step 5

Lastly, add the garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander. Pair it with phulkas or jeera rice for a comforting and nourishing meal.
