Fasting during Chaitra Navratri often includes grains like samak rice, which is light, gluten-free and easy to digest. Vrat dosa is a thoughtful adaptation of traditional dosa, replacing regular rice and lentils with fasting-friendly ingredients like samak and sabudana. It provides steady energy and works well as a breakfast option during fasting days.
1 cup samak rice ½ cup sabudana 1 green chilli Rock salt Water as needed Ghee for cooking For filling 2 boiled potatoes 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 1 green chilli Rock salt Ghee
Soak samak rice and sabudana separately for 4–5 hours, then grind together with chilli and water into a smooth batter.
Let the batter rest for 1–2 hours to improve texture and slight fermentation.
Prepare filling by heating ghee, adding cumin and chilli, then mixing in mashed potatoes with salt.
Heat a pan, spread batter thin like a dosa and drizzle ghee around the edges.
Cook until crisp, place filling in the centre and fold gently.
Serve hot with vrat chutney or plain curd.
