Chaitra Navratri is here and many people observe fasts during this 9-day festival. Changes are required in the regular diet to eat according to the traditional rules and rituals and kuttu is one such flour that is used extensively during these days. It is also known as buckwheat flour and you can make a delicious cheela with it by following this recipe.

Ingredients

1 cup kuttu flour 1 potato 1 green chilli 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder Sendha namak to taste Water 3-4 tablespoons of ghee

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine kuttu flour, mashed potato, chopped green chilli, cumin seeds, black pepper powder, and rock salt. Mix well.

Step 2

Gradually add water to the mixture to make a smooth batter. The consistency should be like pancake batter. Let the batter rest for 10–15 minutes.

Step 3

Heat a non-stick or cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Grease it lightly with ghee.

Step 4

Pour a ladleful of the batter into the centre of the skillet. Spread the batter in a circular motion to form a thin, round cheela.

Step 5

Drizzle a little ghee around the edges of the cheela and cook until the bottom side turns golden brown and crispy. Flip the cheela and cook the other side.

Step 6

Serve the kuttu cheela hot with yoghurt or vrat ki chutney made from grated coconut, green chillies, and rock salt.
