Japanese cream sandwiches, often called fruit sando, are known for their neat appearance and delicate balance rather than richness. The focus is on texture. Ultra-soft milk bread, lightly sweetened cream, and fresh fruit come together in a way that feels light yet satisfying. The sandwich is chilled before slicing, which helps keep the layers sharp and clean, making it look almost bakery-perfect when cut.
4 slices soft white milk bread 1 cup fresh whipping cream 2 tbsp icing sugar ½ tsp vanilla extract Sliced strawberries, kiwi, or mango
Whip cream with icing sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
Trim crusts from bread slices carefully.
Spread cream evenly, arrange fruit neatly, and cover with more cream.
Close with another slice, wrap tightly, and refrigerate for 30–40 minutes.
Slice cleanly and serve chilled, preferably as a dessert sandwich or tea-time sweet.
