As the humidity rises and the pre-monsoon showers begin, the change in weather often brings seasonal sniffles. This isn't just a tea; it’s a restorative tonic designed to soothe the throat and boost immunity. By combining anti-inflammatory turmeric with warming ginger and black pepper, you create a bio-available brew where the pepper helps the body absorb the medicinal properties of the turmeric more effectively.
2 cups water 1-inch piece of ginger (crushed) 1/2 tsp turmeric powder or fresh grated turmeric 1 small cinnamon stick and 2–3 black peppercorns Juice of half a lemon 1 tbsp raw honey (to be added at the end) Optional: 4–5 Tulsi (holy basil) leaves
In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Add the crushed ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, black peppercorns, and tulsi leaves.
Lower the heat and let it simmer for 5–7 minutes until the water reduces slightly and takes on a deep golden, amber colour.
Turn off the heat and strain the tea into a mug.
Add the fresh lemon juice to brighten the flavor.
Crucial Step: Wait for the tea to cool slightly before stirring in the honey. Adding honey to boiling water can destroy its beneficial enzymes. Sip slowly while warm to stay resilient during the seasonal change.
