Bread upma is a South Indian-style dish made with leftover bread tossed in spices, onions, and curry leaves. It’s warm, filling, and perfect for mornings.
4–5 bread slices (cut or torn) 1 onion (chopped) 1 green chilli (chopped) 1 tsp grated ginger ¼ tsp turmeric Salt to taste Juice of ½ lemon Fresh coriander (for garnish) Tempering: 1 tbsp oil ½ tsp mustard seeds 1 sprig curry leaves
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chilli, and ginger.
Add chopped onions and sauté until soft. Add turmeric and salt.
Add the bread pieces and toss gently to coat with masala.
Cook on low for 2–3 minutes. Add lemon juice and coriander.
Serve hot with chai or on its own.
