A truly spectacular chocolate milkshake requires a balance between the bitterness of cocoa and the richness of dairy. Most people make the mistake of using chocolate syrup as the primary flavour agent, which results in a cloyingly sweet, thin drink. For a rich, velvety consistency that coats the spoon, you need a combination of Dutch-processed cocoa powder, dark chocolate chips, and premium vanilla bean ice cream.
3 large scoops of premium vanilla or chocolate ice cream 1/2 cup cold full-fat milk 1 tbsp dark cocoa powder 2 tbsp melted dark chocolate 1 tbsp dark chocolate chips for texture
Chill your serving glass in the freezer for 10 minutes to help the milkshake stay thick from the first sip to the last.
Combine the ice cream, cold milk, cocoa powder, and melted dark chocolate in a high-speed blender.
Blend on medium-high for 15 seconds until completely smooth and frothy without over-blending to prevent the friction from melting the ice cream.
Stir in the dark chocolate chips by hand to add a subtle, crunchy texture contrast then pour the shake into your chilled glass.
