Black Velvet: The Original Beer Cocktail

By Aanchal Mathur

This drink goes way back earlier than even the 1940s. An even mix of sparkling wine and stout gives a balance of flavor to this refreshing drink.

Black velvet is such an old cocktail that it even be the original beer mixed drink! Supposedly, the black velvet was created by a London steward.

It was served while the country was in mourning over the 1861 death of Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert.

Ingredients

4 ounces chilled Champagne 4 ounces chilled stout

Step 1

Gather the ingredients. Pour the Champagne into a wine flute, filling the glass about halfway.

Step 2

Slowly top with the stout to fill the glass. Serve and enjoy.
