Bengalis love their biryanis. There are biryanis made from fish as well. For instance, prawn biryani is a very lavish meal during the wedding season. This prawn biryani recipe is perfect for pre-wedding festivities when guests are hungry and need that extra energy!
450 grams of large prawns ¼ teaspoon of turmeric powder ½ teaspoon of shah jeera 3 bay leaves 2 cinnamon sticks 5 cardamoms 5 cloves 8-10 whole black peppers 1 medium-sized onion, chopped 2 teaspoons of ginger-garlic paste
2 teaspoons of green chilli paste 2 medium-sized potatoes, chopped 1-2 dried red chillies 2 tablespoons of coconut paste 3 cups of cooked rice 2 tablespoons of ghee 1 teaspoon of garam masala Salt to taste Water as required
Mix the prawns, turmeric powder and salt in a bowl. Heat oil in a pan. Lightly fry the prawns until golden brown.
Remove the prawns. In the same pan, add the shah jeera, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, peppers, bay leaves, cloves and onions. Sauté for a few minutes.
Add ginger-garlic paste, chillies, salt, coconut paste and a few tablespoons of water. Add the prawns. Cook it into the spices.
In a large pot, temper shah jeera, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, cloves and cardamom. Add the onions and cooked rice. Some hot water and salt to taste.
Cook for 7-10 minutes on high heat. Stir the mixture from time to time.
Cover with the lid, turn the heat to low. Slow cook it for another 10 minutes. Add in the onions, prawns and garam masala.
Cook for another 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Serve prawn biryani with raita.
