Soft like a pillow with a lightly crisp edge, homemade doughnuts taste dangerously addictive when eaten warm. The buttery dough, sweet sugary coating and airy centre recreate the feel of fresh bakery doughnuts straight from the display counter.
2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp instant yeast 2 tbsp sugar ¼ cup warm milk 2 tbsp butter 1 egg ¼ tsp salt Oil for frying Powdered sugar or chocolate glaze for topping
Mix flour, instant yeast, sugar and salt in a bowl, then add warm milk, egg and butter before kneading into a soft, smooth dough.
Cover the dough and let it rest for about one hour or until it doubles in size and feels airy to the touch.
Roll the dough evenly, cut doughnut shapes using round cutters and allow them to rest again for fifteen minutes before frying.
Fry the doughnuts in medium-hot oil until both sides turn evenly golden while staying soft and fluffy from the centre.
Coat the warm doughnuts with powdered sugar or dip them into chocolate glaze before serving them fresh and soft.
