Storing spinach the right way is essential in this weather as humidity tends to ruin the produce overnight. This is the season when you don’t get the leafy greens in the flourishing state, and if they get ruined, your money goes to waste. Note the tips.
After purchasing the spinach, don’t wash the leaves. Cut the dirty part of the stems, wrap the bunch in a paper towel, and seal the leaves in a bag.
Trim the ends of the bunch and keep them in a glass container filled with water. Cover the leaves with a plastic bag.
Blanch the leaves for 30 seconds, dip them in ice-cold water, portion them, and freeze the leaves for 6 months to a year.
If you spot any spoiled leaves, throw them right away. One bad leaf can soil an entire bunch, so you might as well throw a couple of leaves that came in contact.
Fruits like mango, tomatoes, and bananas release ethylene gas that accelerates the ripening process and can ruin palak.
Take out a handful of leaves from the container and wash them before cooking. Moisture can ruin the leaves, hence, you must avoid washing while storing.
Line an airtight container with tissues and keep the leaves in it. Cover them with another tissue and put on the lid.
