Mangoes are in season, and as much as it is important to learn to identify the pulpy fruit, it is also crucial to know how to store them. If you want to relish sweet mangoes every day, here is how to refrigerate them.
Keep mangoes in a paper bag to speed up the ripening process. The ethylene gas will accelerate the process, and you will enjoy a sweet mango.
If you have bought unripe mangoes, keep them on the kitchen top. They will not ripen in the refrigerator or achieve full flavour.
If you have a half-eaten mango, drizzle lemon juice over it. The citric acid in it will prevent browning and keep it in an airtight container.
If you want to save mangoes for the long term, freeze them. Cut thin slices and refrigerate them to enjoy them months later.
The exposed pulp of a mango can oxidise and get spoiled in no time. Therefore, keep it in an airtight container to avoid interaction with the air.
To extend the shelf life of mangoes, let them ripen, wash them, and refrigerate. It will keep them fresh for 5-7 days.
Don’t store mangoes with other ripe fruits like bananas, avocados, and apples. The ethylene gas from them will spoil them quickly.
