Avocado was an exotic ingredient a few years ago, but now every fitness fanatic is running behind it. They are making guacamole, avocado sandwiches, salads, and whatnot. But the struggle to store half of an avocado is real as the surface starts browning quickly. Here is to store it.

Paper Bag

If the avocado is unripe, you can put it in a paper bag to accelerate the process. The fruit will release ethylene gas which will turn the fruit softer.

Keep Pit

The seed of the avocado is your key to preserving the remaining half of it. Save it because it will minimise the exposure of the surface to oxygen and delay browning.

Store With Onion

Add the avocado in an airtight container with a slice of red onion boasting a sharp scent. Since onion has sulphur, it can slow down oxidation.

Room Temperature

You can keep an unripe avocado on the kitchen counter. It will ripen in a few days, then you can cut it and use it as you wish.

Acidic Agent

If you have half of an avocado, you can rub the surface with lemon juice or white vinegar. Whether it has a pit or not, it will stay fresh for a few days.

Submerge In Water

You can also submerge avocado in water and refrigerate it. This is a quick hack that will work only for a day.

Refrigerate

When the avocado is soft to the touch, refrigerate it as a whole. It will remain fresh for 3-5 days but not more. So you better use it to make your favourite dishes.
