Imagine growing your green chillies at home and enjoying a spicy kick in your food. It sounds like a dream, but it can be a reality. Growing chillies is easy, and you can cultivate them on your balcony as well. Check out the guide.

Timing

Choose the variety of green chilli you want to grow and sow the seeds in warm weather, between March and April.

Sunlight

Keep the plant in the sunlight. It should receive 6-8 hours of natural light every day. If the plant does not receive sunlight, the plant won’t bear good fruits.

Soil

Use a large pot and prepare well-drained soil for it. There should be coco-peat, garden soil, and compost.

Watering

Water the plant every day, even twice a day during heatwaves. You can skip watering for 2 days during the rainy season.

Fertilising

Chillies need a good amount of fertiliser. Compost, organic fertiliser, and liquid fertiliser must be given to the plant every 2-3 weeks when flowering and fruiting happen.

Pruning

When chillies start appearing, branches will become heavy. Consider caging the plant to support branches. You can also prune it for it to develop stronger roots.

Pest Management

Keep the circulation of air through the soil good, and use organic methods to keep the pests away and treat diseases.
