Although undesirable, getting your brown sugar clumped to its crystals is quite a common occurrence and often frustrating. But that doesn't have to be the case because following these simple tips will allow you to soften your brown sugar instantly without breaking a sweat. So, here are 7 handy tips you should know.

Use Bread Or Apple Slices

Put some apple slices or a soft piece of bread in the receptacle containing the clumpy brown sugar. Place a tight lid on the container and let it sit overnight.

Microwave

Put the sugar in the microwave. Place a moist paper towel over it and do it for brief intervals of 15 to 20 seconds to make it pliable.

Sugar Saver

It is a terra cotta disc that you put in the sugar container after soaking it in water. With time, it releases moisture, keeping the sugar supple.

Mist With Water

Use a spray bottle to lightly mist the clumpy sugar with water to give the moisture time to disperse equally.

Blend It

Pulse the brown sugar in a blender or food processor until it becomes loose and granular again if the clumps are significant.

Plastic Bag Method

Place a piece of apple or a moist paper towel in a plastic bag with clumpy brown sugar and let the bag sit for several hours.

Proper Storage

To keep brown sugar from clumping in the future, keep it sealed tightly in an airtight container.
