Matar ka nimona is a green pea curry made commonly during winter in Uttar Pradesh. This matar recipe does have a strange name, but it tastes good when made with fresh, sweet peas.
3 green chillies 1 cup of peas 2 potatoes, diced 2 bay leaves 1 tsp cumin seeds 4 garlic cloves, chopped 1 onion, chopped 1 tomato, chopped ½ tsp coriander powder ½ tsp garam masala powder Salt as needed Cooking oil, as needed
Heat a kadai with oil. Add green chillies and peas. Sauté until the peas get soft and cooked. Take it out on a plate and let it cool.
In the same kadai, add oil and add the diced potatoes. Fry them until golden brown. Take it out on a plate.
Side by side, grind the peas into a paste. In the same kadai, add cumin seeds, bay leaves, and chopped garlic. Sauté.
Once the garlic is slightly cooked, add the chopped onions, and let it cook. Add tomatoes. Cook the tomatoes for about 4-5 mins on medium flame.
Add turmeric powder, garam masala powder, and coriander powder. Add green pea paste.
Fry them. Add water and salt to taste. Mix it thoroughly. Add the fried potatoes, and give it a good mix.
Cook it for about 8-10 mins. Your matar nimona is ready. Serve it with rice or paratha.
