Winter has already transitioned into spring, and soon the brisk in the air will also vanish as scorching summer will make its way. This is the perfect time to begin hoarding on vegetables if you want to use the winter produce for a few more months. This guide will help you store peas for a little longer and enjoy the sweetness.
Instead of storing peas directly in the refrigerator, blanch them. This will help you get rid of any germs. Only 90 seconds in boiling water is enough.
After blanching, don’t forget to dry peas. If you freeze them as they are, the ice will ruin the produce. Dry them before beginning the storage process.
If you want to store the peas for months to come, use an airtight container. It will prevent the moisture from seeping inside.
Line the airtight jar with a tissue to absorb any extra moisture that peas might release during freezing.
Instead of airtight jars, you can also use ziplock bags, without tissues. Over time, the peas will freeze, and you will be able to use them for 4-6 months.
Make sure to store the peas in the deepest depths of your freezer. This will prevent temperature fluctuation throughout the day.
