6-Step Upma Recipe: Healthy South Indian Breakfast Ready In 15 Minutes

Even though breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it is the easiest to skip amid morning chores. To ensure you don’t start your day on an empty stomach, follow this 15-minute upma recipe.

Ingredients

1 cup suji 3 cups water 1/2 tablespoon ghee 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds 1 teaspoon urad dal 1 teaspoon chana dal 10-12 cashew nuts 1 onion 1 green chilli 1 teaspoon grated ginger 8-10 curry leaves Salt to taste Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

Step 1

Dry roast the suji for about three to four minutes and set it aside.

Step 2

Heat the ghee and add mustard seeds. Add urad dal and chana dal and fry till golden brown.

Step 3

Add chopped cashew nuts, curry leaves, green chilli, and grated ginger and saute.

Step 4

Mix in chopped onions and cook till soft. Add water and salt, and let it boil.

Step 5

Turn the heat to low and keep stirring till the suji absorbs most of the water.

Step 6

Once the upma is of the desired consistency, garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
