South Indian red chutney is one of a kind addition to the traditional spread. It is tangy with a hint of spicy notes making it a perfect partner to crispy dosa, soft idli, and deep-fried vadas. Here is its recipe.
4-5 garlic cloves 2 tbsp chana dal ¼ cup onion Salt as needed 2 tbsp desiccated coconut 3-4 Kashmiri red chillies 3 tbsp water 1 tsp tamarind
Rinse onion and garlic and roughly dice them.
Soak red chillies in warm water for 20-30 minutes.
Add the ingredients to a blender and blend.
Pour water gradually to adjust the consistency.
Transfer the chutney to a bowl.
You can also temper it with curry leaves and mustard seeds.
