Every Indian state has a full-fledged thali comprising local delicacies and seasonal produce. Among all, a North Indian thali is quite popular. Check out the seven elements that are must-haves on the plate.
One bowl of dal is essential on the plate. You can have dal tadka, dal fry, dal makhani, etc., to accompany steamed rice.
Flatbread is an essential part of the thali. From butter naan and tandoori roti to missi roti, laccha paratha, and fulka, you can add anything.
Depending on what you like, a bowl should have gravy, ranging from paneer curries to dum aloo, rajma, or chhole.
Another crucial component in a North Indian thali is dry sabzi. Most commercial thalis have mixed veg, but you can include aloo gobi, bhindi, etc.
Completing a thali is raita. It adds freshness, has cooling properties, and flaunts tangy notes. Thus, bringing all the components together.
You won’t find any Indian thali without sweets. Usually, gulab jamun or kheer complete the setup, but you can also add festival-specific desserts.
A North Indian plate also has salad and condiments like pickles, green chutney, and papad. That’s how a thali becomes wholesome.
