Ingredients for Mohinga (or Mohika) Recipe

  • 3 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 1 onion grated
  • 4 garlic cloves crushed
  • 1 inch freshly grated root of ginger
  • 1 stalk lemongrass
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 90 milliliter fish sauce
  • 2 small onions
  • 4 tablespoon rice flour mixed with a little cold water
  • 450 gram catfish
  • 450 gram fine rice noodles
  • 2 For garnishing hard boiled, shredded spring onions, shredded green beans, slices of fried gourd or squash, and fresh coriander leaves

How to Make Mohinga (or Mohika) Recipe

step 1


Grate the onion, garlic, ginger, and lemongrass and cut 2 onions into quarter pieces. In a bowl make a slurry out of rice flour and cold water.

Fry the catfish adding a little salt to taste and cut them into small chunks. Meanwhile, bring a large pan of water to a boil, add the noodles and cook for about 5 minutes or until tender. Drain well.

Boil 2 eggs for garnishing and fry the gourd or squash, hred the spring onions and green beans. In a saucepan, heat 3 tbsp cooking oil and add the grated onions, ginger, garlic, lemongrass, saute them well for 1 minute.

Then add the red chili powder and turmeric powder mix them well with the veggies. Add water as required then start adding fish sauce, quartered onions, and rice flour mixture. Mix everything thoroughly to avoid the formation of lumps.

Once the soup has thickened reduce the flame and simmer it for 20 minutes. Add the fish chunks to the soup and let it cook for another 10 minutes.

Serve it hot and garnish it with 2 sliced boiled eggs, slices of fried gourd or squash, and fresh coriander leaves.
