Ingredients for Tamatar Ki Chaat Recipe

  • As required For the Chaat base
  • 1/2 Tbsp Desi ghee
  • A Pinch hing(asafoetida)
  • 0.13 Tsp Jeera(cumin seeds)
  • 1/4 Inch Ginger ( grated )
  • 0.13 Tsp Poppy seeds
  • 2 Nos Cashew nuts (chopped)
  • 1/4 Tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1/4 Tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/4 Tsp Cumin powder
  • 1 Nos tomatoes (chopped very finely)
  • As required Salt to taste
  • 1/4 Tsp Black salt
  • 0.13 Cup Water [
  • 0.13 Tsp garam masala
  • 3/4 Nos Boiled potatoes and finely chopped
  • 1/4 Tbsp Tamarind pulp
  • 1/4 Tsp chaat masala
  • 1/4 Stems coriander leaves chopped
  • 1/4 Tsp Lemon Juice
  • As required For sugar syrup
  • 1/4 Cup Water [
  • 1.25 Tbsp sugar (chini)
  • 1/4 Tsp roasted cumin powder / jeera powder
  • As required for ganishing For the Final Garnish
  • As required for ganishing Desi ghee
  • As required for ganishing Red chilli powder
  • As required for ganishing chaat masala
  • As required for ganishing roasted cumin powder / jeera powder
  • As required for ganishing Coriander leaves [finely chopped]

Directions: Tamatar Ki Chaat Recipe

Preparation

  • STEP 1.Boil the potatoes and let them cool. Chop them into small pieces after the potatoes have cooled down.
  • STEP 2.Wash and chop the tomatoes, green chillies, mint, and coriander leaves. Grate the ginger. Finely chop the cashew nuts into small pieces and keep aside.

Method

For the Tomato Chaat Base

  • STEP 1.Heat a heavy-bottomed cooking pan or tawa (griddle) and put 2 tbsp of ghee or clarified butter in it. Add the cumin seeds, a pinch of asafoetida, grated ginger and chopped green chillies and saute on medium flame for 30 seconds.
  • STEP 2.Add the poppy seeds and the finely chopped cashew nuts and mix well.
  • STEP 3.Lower the flame and add the spice powders one by one, followed by turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder
  • STEP 4.Add the chopped tomatoes and mix well.
  • STEP 5.Add tamarind pulp, chat masala, salt to taste, and black salt and saute well.
  • STEP 6.Cook till the ghee separates from the tomatoes.
  • STEP 7.Add water and garam masala and mix well. Cover with a lid and cook on low-medium flame for 4-5 minutes till tomatoes turn mushy and soft. Add the boiled and finely chopped potatoes and mix well.
  • STEP 8.Add finely chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice and switch off the flame. The tomato base for the chaat is ready.

For the spiced sugar syrup

  • STEP 1.Pour water into a wide-bottomed saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • STEP 2.Add sugar and cook the syrup till the sugar has completely melted.
  • STEP 3.Add roasted cumin powder and simmer for 5 minutes. Switch off the flame.

For Serving

  • STEP 1.Take a small serving bowl and put 2 tablespoons of the prepared tomato base.
  • STEP 2.Add a generous dollop of ghee and put 2 tsp of the spiced sugar syrup on top of the tomato base.
  • STEP 3.Top it up with some namakpare, sev, or boondi for crunchiness.
  • STEP 4.Sprinkle some red chilli powder, chaat masala, and roasted cumin powder and garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot.
