The expiry dates of cheese can range from three weeks to four months depending on the type of cheese.

To save money and avoid food wastage, it is important to know how to keep cheese fresh. All you have to do is to follow these 3 tips.

1. Keep the cheese in the vegetable drawer

The ideal temperature to store cheese is between 35 and 45 degrees Fahrenheit. The best place to store cheese is farthest from the freezer. Store in the vegetable drawer or on a base where the temperature is even but not too cold.

2. Do not keep cheese in a  plastic bag

People find it super easy to store cheese in a plastic bag and put it in the fridge. But, when the cheese is wrapped in plastic wrap, it can no longer absorb oxygen, resulting in an ammoniacal taste and possibly even harmful bacteria.  To preserve and keep the cheese fresh for as long, keep it in cheese paper to allow fresh air.

3. Wrap in a parchment paper

You can wrap it in baking paper or parchment paper and place it in a partially sealed plastic bag. The parchment paper creates a barrier between the cheese and the plastic, while the plastic prevents it from drying out.

If it was pre-cut, you can wrap the slices of cheese in aluminum foil and place them in the original unopened bag. You can also wrap waxed paper or parchment in foil if you want to get rid of the plastic entirely.

Note: Never freeze the cheese! Freezing can cause structural degradation. So, this will affect the taste and texture of the cheese.
