There’s something so comforting about a warm bowl of dal and rice to end a difficult day of work.  Dal is wonderfully spiced and creamy and the rice is boring but when paired with dal, it’s an absolutely decadent experience that takes us back to our childhood. 

This recipe is so easy to make, you’ll be eating this every day for dinner. All you need are some basic pantry ingredients and twenty minutes to prepare this lovely meal. Microwave cooking makes the whole ordeal of normal cooking so simple and that you’ll consider making more of your dishes in it.

You’ll Need

1 cup of dhuli urad dal

1 onion

An inch of ginger

Three tbsp of oil

1 1/4 tsp of salt

1/2 tsp of haldi

1/2 tsp of red chilli powder

1/4 tsp of amchoor

1/4 tsp of Dhania powder

1 tbsp of coriander

1/2 tsp of cream

A cup of rice


Clean the dal and soak in water for an hour.

Chop the onions into slices.

In a separate bowl, put the onions and ginger and add the oil and coat.

Sprinkle the salt, haldi, red chilli powder, amchoor and dhania powder.

Microwave the onion ginger mix on high for five minutes.

Drain the dal and add to the onion ginger mix.

Add two cups of water to the bowl and microwave for twenty minutes.

Stir at the ten-minute mark.

Chop the coriander and garnish the dal with the coriander and cream.

Clean the rice and add to a microwave-safe bowl and top with water till filled.

Microwave for twenty minutes and drain and serve alongside the dal.
