During the research, the team did a meta-analysis of data in up to 1.9 million people. They found that there is no strong evidence to prove a link between the two. Notably, the researchers used the genetic approach to avoid any confounding. It further revealed that people who drink milk regularly have a lower level of both good and bad cholesterol even if their BMI is higher than the non-drinkers.

It also showed that those who are able to digest lactose present in milk easily are at 11 per cent decreased risk of developing a chronic condition, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, and other cardiovascular conditions.
